ORGANIZATION PROFILE
Tiffin University Men's baseball team is on an upcoming rise of talent and the 2013/2014 season will be an exciting one. Joe Wilkins is the head coach and oversees the hitting and catching aspects while James Richardson oversees the Pitchers and as well as the catchers. Travis Brown helps out with the infielders and Brain Coleman works with the outfielders.
Coach Wilkins and Coach Richardson have professional baseball experience, while Coach Brown and Coach Coleman both have college baseball experience. These four coaches have enough knowledge about the game of baseball to take any team to the next level.
The Tiffin University Men's Baseball team are part of Division 2 in the GLIAC conference (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) and are based out of Tiffin, Ohio. The team has a partnership with Nike, Wilson, and The Game. Coach Wilkins recently made the switch from Addidas apparel to Nike because of the better quality of gear. The Game was also a new addition to the partnerships with providing the hats that the team wears.
My supervisor for this internship was James Richardson, he is in his first year coaching at Tiffin and will be the pitching coach. Richardson served as an Assistant Coach at nationally ranked Judson University (NAIA). In 2013 Richardson helped lead the Judson Eagles to a 46-17 overall record highlighted by a CCAC Conference Championship, CCAC Tournament Championship and a NAIA World Series Opening Round Championship appearance. In addition to setting a school record 18 game win streak Judson finished the 2013 season ranked #22 in the NAIA National Poll while also being Nationally ranked in 3 different pitching categories (OPBAvg .261, ERA 3.62, Total K's 391). During the summer he internally scouts for the Single-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs (Kane County Cougars) by charting every pitch, taking and recording video and sending it to the front office.
Some history of the baseball program is that the Dragons made it to the GLIAC playoffs for the first time in school history two years ago. Before Wilkins was head coach, Lonny Allen who is the Athletic Director of Tiffin University was the head coach. The school was a part of NAIA and then switched over to the NCAA less than seven years ago and have already made a big impact on the GLIAC conference. There have been major improvements done to the facility such as a new pressbox, stadium seating, a players lounge above a new locker room, new fencing and major improvements to the playing surface.
